Moscow, Russia, 08-1991 Communist coup leaders sent a tank and infantry regiment to the Kremlin in central Moscow. Tanks and soldiers faced pro democracy demonstrators blocking Manesch square. The commanders later switched sides to join Boris Yelstin. Future president Boris Yesltsin took refuge in the White House resisting communist coup leaders trying to overthrow president Gorbatchev.
